The Unspoken Compulsions Imposed Upon Buyers While Comparing Laptops And Desktop Computers

By Rajnish Mehan of Mehan Online Media

When out for shopping, people look into windows, turn in and out the price tags, look into the price list books and do many other things before they finally settle down on a particular item. This particular paraphernalia is adopted for whatever item people go for shopping. For most of the people, usually the masses, the primary target is to get the best deals for the particular item that they are buying. A similar kind of comparison is applicable for the laptops and desktop computers when people think of buying one.

Earlier perspective

In the olden days, when the computing gadgets didn’t have much popularity or people didn’t have much use of them, the prices of computers were quite high. They were possible to be bought by people who had money and those who though status symbol to be important. The costs went up to many thousands, which was not affordable by the people from the middle income group. Desktop computers were priced high and the laptops were the prerogative of a select few. Finding a laptop which cost around INR 50,000 was a difficult proposition. And this scenario was still prevalent, only a couple of decades back.

Present scenario

In today’s times, in the 21st century, the prices of computers in general have reduced significantly due to the availability of many local companies. The parts are manufactured and assembled in the same place and there are no overhead charges of transportation. The most important factor, that has lowered the prices by almost half of what was a decade back, is that of the increase in demand. Almost every organisation is using computers for its functioning and every person is conversant with the use of this gadget. People, especially the students are buying laptops for their studies and professionals are going for computers as they need these gadgets for various professional works. With the increase in the demand for laptops and desktop computers, another factor that has lowered the prices is that of the availability of various other gadgets which have computing abilities like palm tops, smart phones, tablets, etc.

As the present scenario is clearly suggestive, the market trends have forced the reduction in cost of the laptops and computers. There are plenty of choices for the customers to choose from, apart from the lowered costs of the computers. In such a situation, people can get the best deals if they are able to compare the prices of different desktop computers and laptops, before finalising on a particular gadget. In order to be at the gainer’s end, people need to take care of few things so that they can indulge in price comparison.

Deals and offers

Due to the competitive market, every brand is trying to catch the greatest share in the computer market. From time to time, they give out offers and discounts on their products, which are lower than the going rate. Sometimes, these discounts are on newly launched products, so as to attract more customers. Periodic sale is organised by some distributors and wholesalers, where the price of the laptop or desktop is quite low by around a few thousand rupees. There are other gift items given along with the laptops that bring the effective price of the laptop very low. In many occasions or festivals, the electronic items are cheaper than usual, because people have a tendency to go on shopping. Providing discounts during these periods will help in greater sale of the products.

Comparing prices in shops

Unless a particular shop or store is dealing with a single brand, it is possible to find the electronic items of different companies in a shop. When different brands of laptops and desktop computers are present, people should go through the price list of the brands and try to select the one that gives the best deals in the lowest prices. It is also not advisable to go for the cheapest gadget because there might not be advanced facilities in it. So, people should shuffle through the price list of different computers and ask about the specifications in the particular computer, before they finally decide on any particular one. Since the shops contain a lot of computers of varying brands, comparisons can be best done in a computer shop.

Brand valuation

In the market, brands carry a value for different products. If people are interested to buy a particular brand, then they might have to pay a higher price, than the one which is local made or is assembled. During the comparison of prices, if it is seen that there is not much difference in the value of the computers, then they can go for the cheaper assembled computers, instead of paying quite high for the same specification.
